A map is a reflection of experience. No map is actually accurate. First of all, a map is only two dimensional, enough said about that. Second, The road isnt actually where it’s depicted on a map, thats becuase its hard to acuratlly translate our experince in the world onto a flat piece of paper. Third, the earth changes but the map       stays the same. On top of all that there is distortion created making a round thing flat. The acuracy of a map relies on the belief that our experience is accuratebut that’s not the case. Regardles, people somehow find ways to figure it out and agree about where something is.

Tea For T!

This performance combines two distinct cultural traditions: Gongfu Cha and the Western experimental music tradition. The sonic space created by the sound waves from the speakers draws on this Western tradition, looking toward the work of composers like La Monte Young (Dream House), Pauline Oliveros and her Deep Listening practice, as well as Maryanne Amacher, whose work explored psychoacoustics and music.

Pants for Panthers is a duo whose practices blend abstract concepts, blunt experimentation, and nonsensical play. Just kidding. Pants for Panthers is a duo whose practices utilize sounds, videos, and space (and of course, time). Although it starts somewhat as a band with people upholding their honorable music degrees, it always wants more to do with animals, plants, fine arts, jokes, and engineering ideologies (rather than the tonic-dominant relationships, the verse-chorus format, or the syncopated four-four meters). What’s “engineering ideologies”, anyways?? Told you it is nonsensical.
Sensically, however, the works of Pants for Panthers focus on making music in which the composition, the space and the audience are different sides of the same object. The members of the band are Derek Drudge and Wang Ziyu. Derek likes Reaper, and Ziyu hates Finale. (In other words: Derek’s creative output usually involves a computer, and Ziyu likes Sibelius.) (I mean, Ziyu is very serious about notation.)
